DENVER - The University of Denver men’s tennis squad fell to 9-7 on the season with a 7-0 loss at Brigham Young, Monday.
The Pioneers were unable to gain any momentum against the Cougars. Denver opened the contest losing all three matches on the doubles courts. On singles the Pioneers played without its usual No. 2, senior Tomasz Wawrzyniak (Inowroclaw, Poland). That forced Nos. 3-6 to move up to fill in the gap. Junior Magnus Ramfelt (Bromma, Sweden) and Jay Patel (Ahemedabad, India) each played very well, moving up one spot in the lineup, and were able to push their opponents to a third set. Ramfelt, playing at No. 2, lost in the tie-breaker set to Carlos Lozano, losing 6-7, 7-6, 7-5. Patel, on the third court, managed to push Eric Nyman to three sets, but eventually fell, 6-2, 6-7, 6-3.
Denver will travel to Salt Lake City to take on the University of Utah, Tuesday (Apr. 10) at 1:30 p.m.
