DENVER - University of Denver men's lacrosse players Mike Law (Englewood, Colo.), a first-round selection and Kenny Crowley (Darien, Conn.), a fourth-round pick, were selected in the supplemental draft of the Major Lacrosse League and will play for the Boston Cannons.
The Major Lacrosse League, which is currently made up of six teams located in the Northeast/Mid-Atlantic states, will open its inaugural season this Thursday, June 7, 2001 with a 14-game schedule that concludes with a championship game being played over the Labor Day weekend. The Cannons will open their initial campaign against the New Jersey Pride on Saturday, June 9 at 5 p.m. MST.
Law, a marketing and finance major who maintained a 3.49 GPA, earned honors as a member of the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Scholar All-America Team, it was announced today. USILA recognizes student-athletes who have excelled academically, athletically, and as citizens in their respective communities.
Law, who led the Pioneers for the second straight year with 49 points (34 goals, 15 assists), has highlighted postseason accolades for the University of Denver men's lacrosse program. Law, the team's Most Valuable Player, was selected to the 2001 USILA Scholar All-American Team. In addition, he was named honorable mention to the 2001 USILA Men's All-American Team, voted to the Great Western Lacrosse League first-team for the third consecutive year, was elected to the Verizon Academic All-America At-Large District Seven Team and invited to tryout for the United States National Team.
