DENVER -University of Denver men's lacrosse head coach Jamie Munro has announced the hiring of Geoff Bieging as an assistant coach for the lacrosse program. Bieging joins Trevor Tierney to complete Munro's coaching staff for the upcoming 2002 season.
Bieging was a four-year starter for the Pioneers from 1997-2000 and led Denver to a 10-4 overall mark as a senior, Denver's best record in 13 years and first winning season as a Division I program. During his career at Denver he played in 47 games and left his mark on the Pioneer record books. Bieging is Denver's fifth all-time leader in goals (81), third all-time leader in assists (58), and fourth all-time leader in total points (139). He was named the team's MVP in 1998 and earned Great Western Lacrosse Player of the Week recognition in 1999.
"Goeff was a great player and a great leader on the field," said Munro. "We are very lucky and excited to have him join our staff."
Bieging will work with Denver's offense attack and assist with recruiting efforts in addition to spearheading the sponsorship drive for the annual Pioneer Face-Off Classic.
He comes to Denver after working as an assistant coach at East Manuel High School where he led them to the Colorado State semifinals this past spring. Following his graduation from Denver, Bieging coached and played with a club lacrosse team in Australia.
The Englewood, Colo. native earned a bachelor degree in business administration with an emphasis in finance from Denver in 2000. Before Denver, Bieging was a four-year lacrosse letter-winner at Cherry Creek High School and received All-American plaudits as a senior in 1996.
