PIONEERS OPEN NEW YEAR IN ARKANSAS: The University of Denver men's basketball team hopes to start the New Year differently than it ended 2001, as the Pioneers look to end a season-high four-game losing streak this weekend in Arkansas. Denver faces Arkansas State on Thursday before playing Arkansas-Little Rock on Saturday.
The Pioneers won a shocker in Jonesboro last year, 90-75, for Denver's first win over ASU since 1968, a four-game stretch. The Indians are coming off a tough double-overtime loss at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, which beat the Pioneers a week earlier. ASU also has an overtime loss to Air Force, which split with Denver earlier in the season.
Denver is coming off a second-straight tough loss, Sunday afternoon at Drake. B.J. Pratt led the Pioneers with 21 points.
