Men's Soccer Drops Sixth Straight

Oct. 25, 2002

Box Score

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The University of Denver men's soccer team dropped its sixth consecutive game Friday night, falling to UNLV, 2-1. With their third straight conference loss, the Pioneers fall to 6-10-0 on the season, 0-3-0 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. UNLV improves to 9-5-0, 2-0-0. The Rebels got on the board first in the 22nd minute on a shot from Kelly Frederick. A give-and-go inside the box from teammate Alez Hernandez beat Denver goalkeeper senior Brian Lux (Lakewood, Colo.).

The Pioneers responded and tied the score 1-1 at halftime. Senior Nic Hartman (Littleton, Colo.) took advantage of an UNLV turnover when he collected a ball off a deflection and put it into the back of the net.

The winning goal came in the 60th minute when Rebel freshman Rod Dyachenko converted a cross from Alex Hernandez after Frederick flicked it.

This is the first time that Denver has lost six consecutive games since 1984. The Pioneers have scored only three goals during the skid and have not scored more than one goal in a game since a 2-0 September 29 victory over St. Mary's.

The Pioneers will try and break the streak Sunday, Oct. 27 when they take on MPSF foe New Mexico at 1 p.m. in Albuquerque.
