NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The University of Denver men's soccer team dropped its second consecutive game Sunday afternoon, falling at Cal State Northridge 3-1. The loss evens Denver's record at 6-6 on the season. Cal State Northridge improves to 7-1-1.
The Pioneers were badly outshot in the contest as the Anteaters registered 29 shots to just eight for Denver. Cal State Northridge grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute and added another just over eight minutes later for a 2-0 lead before Denver would respond. The Pioneers got back in the game just before halftime when senior Nat Borchers (Pueblo, Colo.) scored his fourth goal of the year off a pass from fellow senior Nic Hartman (Littleton, Colo.) to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Denver made a goalkeeper change just after halftime, replacing freshman Lami Harmon (Newark, Del.) with senior Brian Lux (Lakewood, Colo.) in the 59th minute. Trying to keep the Northridge lead at 2-1, Lux allowed a goal to Anteater Yossi Raz in the in the 65th minute that put the game out of reach for Denver.
The Pioneers have now dropped two straight games after a two-game winning streak. Denver will look to get back on track this Wednesday, Oct. 9 when they take on in-state rival Colorado School of Mines at 3 p.m. at Pioneer Field.
