PIONEERS START HOMESTRETCH WITH SENIOR NIGHT VS. CAJUNS: With the No. 5 seed in the West Division clinched for next week's Sun Belt Conference Tournament in New Orleans, the Pioneers turn their focus to their final home game on Monday against Louisiana-Lafayette.
? ? ? The Pioneers will honor their four seniors - Wahhab Carter, Phillip Heath, Sherman Rochell and Tyrone Turner - in a pre-game ceremony as the program celebrates their collective 14 years of contributions to Denver basketball.
? ? ? Denver is coming off a 1-1 road trip at South Alabama, where the Pioneers earned their first Sun Belt road win of the season, and Middle Tennessee.
? ? ? Louisiana-Lafayette scored a home weekend sweep of Arkansas State and Arkansas-Little Rock, and controls its own destiny for the West Division title.
SO LONG, FAREWELL: The University of Denver says good bye to four Pioneer seniors tonight.
? ? ? Forward Wahhab Carter (El Reno, Okla. / El Reno HS) will finish his career with several listings in the Pioneers' all-time record book. He earned all-Sun Belt Conference honors in Denver's first season in the league as a sophomore. After a solid junior campaign, he has started all 25 games in ranking third in both scoring and rebounding this season. With 1,352 points entering tonight's contest, he currently ranks fifth on the all-time Denver scoring list. His 609 rebounds currently have him seventh, and he is also third in field goals made and attempted.
? ? ? Guard Phillip Heath (Seattle, Wash. / Rainier Beach HS) saw action in 24 of the Pioneers' 27 games his freshman year, providing solid backup minutes for the Pioneers. He continued that solid play his sophomore season, seeing action in half of Denver's games. He made his first collegiate start against Brown last season, scoring a career-high six points in that game before topping that effort with seven points against Colorado Christian three weeks later. This season, he's seen action in 10 games, logging a season-high 12 minutes against Western Kentucky. His tireless work ethic in the weight room has made him the strongest Pioneer, pound-for-pound, on the floor.
? ? ? Although forward Sherman Rochell (Oklahoma City, Okla. / Northern Oklahoma College) only had two seasons with the Pioneers, this Oklahoma City native certainly has made good use of his time in Denver. After transferring to Denver from Northern Oklahoma College, he led the team in assists, steals, and minutes played while averaging 7 points per game as a junior. He had his first career double-double against Louisiana-Lafayette last year, and he's added three more this season. His aggressive style of play has him all over the court every game, which easily explains why he's Denver's leader this season in rebounds, blocks, steals, free throws, and minutes played, and he's also second in scoring at almost 13 points a game. He's started all but one of Denver's last 49 games.
? ? ? Guard Tyrone Turner (Denver, Colo. / George Washington HS) played in 20 games his freshman year. He saw action in 23 games his sophomore year, and was second on the team in assists with 31. He posted career-highs of seven points and five assists at Oregon, and had another five against Colorado State a month later. As a junior, he earned his first career start against Brown, and his eight steals was third on the team among reserve players last season. This season, he's played in nine games, nearly tying his career high with six points against Morris Brown, when he also had a season-high three rebounds and two assists.
