Women's Tennis Falls to No. 28 Florida International

The University of Denver women's tennis team dropped all nine matches at No. 28-ranked Florida International Tuesday (Mar. 19), falling to the Panthers by a 7-0 count. The Pioneers, in Florida during spring break for the first of three matches this week, fell to 5-5 on the season.
FIU dominated Denver on all courts, winning two of the three doubles matches by 8-3 scores, and the other 8-1. At singles, the Panthers needed just two sets on all six courts to sweep the Pioneers. Freshman Barbara Kourim lost for just the second time this season at No. 2 singles, falling to 4-2 in that slot with a 6-3, 6-0 loss to Mei Ly. On the sixth court, junior Maru Altamirano lost just her second match at that position, falling to FIU's Dominique Rosenberg, 6-1, 6-4. The closest match for the Pioneers came at No. 3 singles as freshman Stephanie Ginsburg pushed Panthers' Cristina Campana. Ginsburg lost the first set, 6-1, but nearly topped Campana before dropping the second set, 7-6.
Denver (5-5) will remain in Florida to take on Northern Iowa (Mar. 21) and Boston College (Mar. 23) before returning to the Mile High City to host Northern Arizona on Mar. 29.
