WICHITA, Kan. - The University of Denver men's golf team finished in sixth place today at the Diet Pepsi/Shocker Classic golf tournament hosted by Wichita State University and held at Crestview Country Club. The Pioneers shot a 25-over par 889 and finished 30 strokes behind winner Texas-San Antonio, who won the event with a 5-under par total of 859

Denver was led for the first time in his career by junior Shawn Wills (Northglenn, Colo.), who shot 75-75-74-223 (10-over par) and finished 20 strokes behind individual medallist Gibby Martens of UT-San Antonio, who won going away with a 10-under par 203. Trevor Sauntry of Stephen F. Austin closed today with a final round 9-under par 62 to finish second, four strokes back.

Next for Denver was junior Tommy Hart (Englewood, Colo.) and freshman Barrett Jarosch (Edmonton, Alberta) who both shot 11-over par 224s to finish in a two-way tie for 25th. Hart closed with a final round 79 and Jarosch shot his best round of the tournament with a 1-over par 72.

Rounding out the scoring for Denver was junior Erik Billinger (Broomfield, Colo.) who finished with a 13-over par 226 and tied for 32nd, and junior Tony Giarratano (Castle Rock, Colo.) who shot a 16-over 229 to tie for 44th.

The Pioneers are next in action beginning Friday, April 19 when they play in the Cougar Classic in Provo, Utah.
