NORTH PLAINS, Ore. - Former University of Denver women's golfer Kelly Schaub shot an opening round 13-over par 84 in the first round of the U.S. Women's Open held at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Course. It is the first time she's teed it up in a U.S. Open.
Playing in a late afternoon tee time with her former coach, head women's golf coach Sammie Chergo serving as her caddie, Schaub shot a 3-over par 39 on the front nine but struggled coming in with a 10-over par 45 on the back to finish with an 84, 13-over par. But she was hardly the only player to struggle, as just eight players in the field finished the first round under par.
She begins her second round on Friday at 9:54 MDT.
