LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The University of Denver volleyball team recorded 35 kills and was held to just a .072 hitting percentage in a 3-0 loss (16-30, 13-30 25-30) at New Mexico State Friday night in the Pan American Center. The Pioneers drop to 8-8 overall, 2-3 in the Sun Belt Conference. New Mexico State improves to 15-2, 5-0.

New Mexico State dominated from the outset, recording a 53-35 kill advantage and holding the Pioneers to just a .072 hitting night. Freshman Sarah Wirth (Sacramento, Calif.) paced the Pioneers with eight kills and both junior Kristin Halt (St. Charles, Ill.) and freshman Kim Muller (Parkville, Mo.) each recorded seven for Denver.

"I think what happened in this match was that we ended up out of system too much," head coach Beth Kuwata said. "We were running offense away from the net and it made it difficult for us to get the ball to our outsides. They put lots of pressure on us and we weren't able to control it."

The Pioneers are next in action on Sunday when they take on Arkansas State at 11 a.m.
