DENVER -
Junior midfielder Travis Hendricks (Englewood, Colo.) tallied his seventh and eighth goals of the season as the University of Denver men's soccer team defeated the San Diego State Aztecs, 2-0, on Friday afternoon in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation action. The Pioneers' win snaps a two-game losing streak and improves their record to 9-5-1 overall and 6-3-0 in the MPSF. The Aztecs fall to 3-12-2, 3-6-1.
Hendricks' first goal of the day was created by a perfect cross from senior midfielder/defender Mark Wellen (Littleton, Colo.). Hendricks used his head to beat SDSU's goalkeeper high and right in the sixth minute.
Hendricks scored the insurance goal 55 minutes later. After taking a pass from sophomore Mike Seager (Victoria, B.C.) Hendricks made a great one-on-one move and beat Tally Hall for his team-best eighth goal of the year.
Freshman goalkeeper Matt Bredehoft (Fort Collins, Colo.) made three saves in his shutout performance. Hall registered seven.
Denver outshot SDSU, 18-8.
The Pioneers return to action on Sunday, November 7, when they play host to MPSF rival UNLV at 11 a.m. at Pioneer Field. The Rebels defeated Denver, 1-0, in Las Vegas on October 8.
