Pioneers Edge Bulldogs

The University of Denver defeated Drake, 4-3, in men's tennis action on Saturday, March 6 at Stapleton Tennis Pavilion in Denver. Drake swept all three doubles matches to earn the doubles point, but Denver rebounded with four of six singles win to secure its third consecutive win.

"We really responded after getting swept in doubles," head coach Geoff Young said. "It was really windy all day, but our guys responded to the challege to get our third consecutive win."

Nejc Smole (Ljubljana, Slovenia), Urban Ljubic (Ljubljana, Slovenia), Jason Tan (Amsterdam, Netherlands) and Niki Popovic (Ljubljana, Slovenia) were victorious at No. 1, 4, 5 and 6 singles for Denver. Ljubic's 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 win over Drake's Sergi Vila at No. 4 singles clinched the win for Denver.

With the win, Denver (7-6) moves one game above .500 for the first time Feb. 15.

The Pioneers will host Utah on Sunday, March 7 at Stapleton Tennis Pavilion.
