LAWRENCE, Kan. - The University of Denver volleyball team recorded just a .116 attack percentage and were outkilled 50-31 in a 3-0 loss to Kansas Saturday afternoon in the Pioneers' final match of the Holiday Inn/Jayhawk Classic. The Pioneers went 1-2 on the weekend and fall to 2-5 on the season. Kansas won all three of its matches in the tournament and improves to 7-0.
The Pioneers had just one player record double figures in kills, as sophomore Lisa Hunter (St. Louis, Mo.) led Denver with 10. It was the seventh consecutive match Hunter has led Denver in kills this season. Freshman Sarah Wirth (Sacramento, Calif.) also had eight kills for the Pioneers. Hunter was named to the Holiday Inn/Jayhawk Classic All-Tournament team.
Denver will play in the University of Denver Invitational next Friday and Saturday. The Pioneers will open the tournament on Friday against Syracuse at 7:30 p.m.
