Sept. 17, 2004

SEATTLE - The University of Denver men's soccer team was blanked, 1-0, by the UC Riverside Highlanders this evening in the first game of the Husky Invitational hosted by the University of Washington. The Pioneers, who have now lost two consecutive games by the score of 1-0, fall to 3-2. The Highlanders improve to 3-1.

Just like Denver's last contest, the Pioneers dominated every statistical category besides the score. They outshot UC Riverside, 19-8 and had eight corner kicks compared to just three for the Highlanders.

Freshman Matt Bredehoft (Fort Collins, Colo.) allowed the first goal of his young career. UCR's Luc Harrington got his head on a Jordan Arias free kick in the 53rd minute to beat Bredehoft. Bredehoft has only allowed one goal in 315 minutes of action.

Denver was unable to solve Highlander keeper Charles Alamo. Alamo made six saves.

The Pioneers will return to action on Sunday, Sept. 19, in the final game of the Husky Invitational, hosted by the University of Washington. Denver will square off against the No. 18 Washington Huskies, at 2:30 p.m. MT.
