Denver Downs Cal Poly and Southern Mississippi at UNLV Invitational

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - After rain delayed play in Las Vegas, the University of Denver men's tennis team defeated Cal Poly, 4-3, and Southern Mississippi 4-2 today at the UNLV Invitational and advanced to face UNLV in the championship tomorrow at noon MT.

"I am really happy with the way we competed today," said head coach Geoff Young. "Our guys really battled and earned both victories."

Adam Holmstrom (Eskilstuna, Sweden) and Viktor Zetterholm (Stockholm, Sweden) both earned wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, defeating their opponents in straight sets. Steve Flaks (Colorado Springs, Colo.) also picked up wins at No. 4 and No. 6 singles, respectively.

Niklas Persson (Stockholm, Sweden) was defeated at No. 3 singles by Fred Dewitte, 4-6, 7-6, 6-4, while Jason Tan (Amsterdam, Netherlands) was defeated by Brett Van Linge, 6-0, 4-6, 6-1 at No. 4 singles.

The Pioneers swept all doubles matches and won the doubles point. Holmstrom and Persson won 8-3 and Flaks and Tan won 9-7 at No. 3. Zetterholm and Rosen did not finish their match.
