STOWE, Vt. - Florence Roujas (Embrun, France), Pia Rivelsrud (Aalesund, Norway) and Doiminik Schweiger (Wangle, Austria) all finished in the top-10 in the slalom this afternoon to help the University of Denver ski team maintain its lead with 551.5 points with one day of competition remaining at the 2005 NCAA Ski Championships at Stowe Mountain Resort in Stowe, Vt. Host Vermont trails with 526 points in second place, while Dartmouth stands in third with 465 points.
Roujas' third-place finish in the slalom, earning her a second All-America honor, with a combined time of 1:26.46 and 40 points paced the Pioneers to their second consecutive NCAA slalom event title with 98.5 points. Rivelsrud also earned her second All-America honor of the year finishing tied for seventh place with New Hampshire's Sydney Mikkelson with a time of 1:27.77 and each earning 35.5 points. Newcomer Karine Falck-Pederson (Slependen, Norway) rounded it out for Denver finishing in 20th place earning 23 points with a combined time of 1:30.82. Middlebury's Megan Hughes won the event with a combined time of 1:25.39.
On the men's side, Denver finished in fourth place with 84 points behind Vermont (95), Dartmouth (92) and Colby College (85). Schweiger led the way for the Pioneers with a fourth-place finish to earn 39 points with a combined time of 1:19.85. His performance today earned Schweiger his fourth career All-America honor. Junior Todd Ligare (Park City, Utah) placed 16th with a combined time of 1:24.03 earning 27 points and senior David Lamb (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) had a rocky first run, but came back in the second run to finish 25th (1:37.66) earning 18 points. Dartmouth's David Chodounsky won the event with a combined time of 1:18.12.
Denver will be back in action for the final day of competition with the women's 15K race and men's 20K freestyle race at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. MT, respectively at the Trapp Family Lodge.
