DENVER - University of Denver swimmer sophomore Craig Jollands (Hillcrest, South Africa) was named Sun Belt Conference Performer of the Week, it was announced today by league officials. It is Jollands third honor this season.
Jollands won two events, the 400-yard individual medley (4:04.21) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:44.37), to lead the Pioneers to wins over Metro State (161-42) and Colorado (157-63) last Friday in El Pomar Natatorium. In both of his swims, he beat his nearest competitor by over five seconds. Jollands also swam the freestyle anchor leg in the 400-yard medley relay which also took top honors. His win in the 500-yard freestyle is his fourth of the season.
Jollands has now earned Performer of the Week honors three times this season. He had previously earned the honor on October 26 and December 7.
Denver will be back in action on Friday, Jan. 21, when the women face Northern Colorado in El Pomar Natatorium with diving beginning at 4:30 p.m. The men will square off against Air Force in Colorado Springs on Saturday, Jan. 22 at 10 a.m.
