Gauchos Outlast Pioneers, 5-2

April 17, 2005

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The University of Denver men's tennis team fell to 8-12 overall with a 5-2 loss at UC Santa Barbara this afternoon. The Gauchos won the doubles point and captured four singles wins, including three, three-set victories to get the win.

"It's a disappointing loss because we didn't win any of the three-set matches," head coach Geoff Young said. "We'll give it our best shot at the Sun Belt Tournament next week."

Freshman Niklas Persson (Stockholm, Sweden) and Kalle Rosen (Helsingborg, Sweden) claimed singles wins for the Pioneers. Persson defeated Ivan d'Argence 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, while Rosen was a 6-0, 7-5 winner over Hagen Brody at No. 6 singles.

Viktor Zetterholm (Stockholm, Sweden), Jason Tan (Amsterdam, Netherlands) and Steve Flaks (Colorado Springs, Colo.) all lost three-set singles matches.

Adam Holmstrom (Eskilstuna, Sweden) and Persson won 8-4 at No. 1 doubles.

The Pioneers will play at the Sun Belt Conference Tournament on Friday, April 22.
