Denver Men Fall to Santa Clara, 5-2

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The No. 75 University of Denver men's tennis team was defeated by Santa Clara, 5-2, this afternoon in Albuquerque, N.M. The Pioneers won two singles matches, but the Broncos claimed the doubles point and captured the other four singles matches to improve to 9-7, while the Pioneers drop to 6-9.
In singles action, Jason Tan (Amsterdam, Netherlands) defeated Eric Kochanski, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles, and Steve Flaks (Colorado Springs, Colo.) beat Francisco Zepponi, 6-3, 7-6 at No. 4 singles, but Niklas Persson (Stockholm, Sweden), Victor Zetterholm (Stockholm, Sweden), Kalle Rosen (Helsingborg, Sweden) and Ryan Slemons (Woodinville, Wash.) all were defeated in their respective singles matches to seal the win for Santa Clara.
"Steve recorded a good win at No. 4 singles," said head coach Geoff Young. "I feel we are playing better, but still need to start with more energy. We look forward to getting Adam back in the line up in a few weeks."
On the doubles side, Persson and Zetterholm recorded the lone win at No. 1 doubles, defeating Santa Clara's Bobby Rasmussen and Eric Kochanski, 8-1, but the duos of Tan and Flaks and Rosen and Slemons both lost at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, respectively.
The Pioneers return to action Tuesday, April 5 against Air Force in Colorado Springs at 1 p.m.
