DENVER - The first session of head men's basketball coach Terry Carroll's Boy's Basketball Camp is now in full swing. Camp counselors include Carroll; assistant men's basketball coaches Kevin Reynolds, Marcus Mason and Matt Garner and players Yemi Nicholson, Terrence Gordon and Brian Brown.
The second session of the 2005 summer camp season will run from July 25-28. Boys ages 6-18 (recreational players entering grades 1-12) will take part in basketball drills, contests and games over the four days. The camp will begin at 9 a.m. each day and finish at 4 p.m. A typical day's schedule is below.
The campers are asked to wear athletic shoes and t-shirt and bring a lunch and drink. An official Terry Carroll Basketball Camp t-shirt will be given to all participants on the last day of camp. During camp time, the coach-to-camper ration will be approximately 1:15.
The basketball camp is held in the Hamilton Gymnasium, located in the Daniel L. Ritchie Center for Sports and Wellness at the University of Denver. The gym, which features a three-court wood floor, is an air-conditioned facility that is part of the new recreation and athletic complex on campus.
The Terry Carroll Basketball Camp's philosophy is to ensure that campers get the most out of coaching and instruction so that they can become better basketball players. However, the most important philosophy of the week is to have fun. Coached in a professional and educational atmosphere, campers learn to enjoy the game while developing fundamental skills.
