Pioneers Drop Two Matches at UIC Invitational

CHICAGO- In the final day of action at the UIC Invitational the University of Denver volleyball team dropped two matches, falling to the University of Illinois-Chicago and tournament champion, College of Charleston. The losses drop the Pioneers to 1-3 on the season.

In the first match, Denver battled with the University of Illinois-Chicago Flames but couldn't put the match away falling, 3-2. Denver was led offensively by Kim Muller (Ballwin, Mo.), who recorded 19 kills and five attacking errors to lead the Pioneers. She recorded a .359 hitting percentage for the match. The Pioneer had excellent play from outside hitter Amanda Millard (Southlake, Texas), who led the Pioneers with 11 kills and 11 digs in the match. Sarah Adamis (Naperville, Ill.) paced Denver defensively recording 14 digs. The Pioneers recorded 12 blocks in the match.

In the second match, the Pioneers struggled recording a .126 hitting percentage for the match. In the first game the Pioneers registered 15 kills but committed nine errors. Denver picked it up in the second match recording a .216 hitting percentage en route to a 30-26 win, but they couldn't sustain the momentum losing the next two games and the match. Muller once again led the Pioneers offensively with 17 kills and both Adamis and Millard paced the Pioneers defensively recording 17 digs apiece.

The Pioneers are next in action on Tuesday Sept. 6 at 7 p.m. when they host Colorado State.
