DENVER - The University of Denver volleyball team posted its fourth straight win over a Sun Belt Conference opponent in a 3-0 sweep of Troy, 30-17, 30-20 and 30-24, in Hamilton Gym Sunday afternoon. Sophomore Holly Benson (Colorado Springs, Colo.) was nearly flawless, committing only four errors in the match as DU improved to 14-9 overall and 7-4 in the SBC. Troy dropped to 8-20 overall and 2-10 in the conference.

Benson led the match with 16 kills and 10 digs. Sophomore Clare Maxwell (Western Springs, Ill.) recorded a match-high 43 digs, and contributed two kills, one ace, seven digs and was part of one block. Freshman Emmy Davidsmeyer (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and senior Lisa Hunter (St. Louis, Mo.) added 11 kills apiece.

DU's .407 attack percentage in the three-game match was the highest the team has recorded all season.

"Our outside attackers did an excellent job," head coach Beth Kuwata said. "If you added their hitting percentages together it's a number I'd love to have any day of the week. The best thing about today's match is that we stayed in system, we had great passing and that allowed a lot of one-on-one opportunities for all of our attackers. We posted back-to-back good matches."

The Pioneers dominated in the 30-17 game one win behind Benson's seven kills and .875 hitting percentage. In game two the Pioneers were just as commanding with a .485 hitting percentage. Maxwell had 15 assists in the game and Davidsmeyer recorded six kills. The Pioneers put together a 8-2 run and a 10-3 run to win the third game of the match, 30-24. Hunter, recognized before the match as part of a Senior Day celebration, recorded the final kill of the game for the win.

The Pioneers return to action on Monday, Oct. 23 when they host SBC West Division Leader North Texas at 7 p.m. in Hamilton Gymnasium.
