BOCA RATON, Fla. - The University of Denver volleyball team record eight blocks and hit .248 in a 3-0 sweep of Sun Belt Conference opponent Florida Atlantic, 30-24, 30-28 and 30-28, Friday evening in Boca Raton, Fla. DU improved to 10-7 overall and 3-2 in SBC play, while FAU fell to 7-10 and 4-3.
"I'm really happy with our defensive effort," head coach Beth Kuwata said. "We did a great job passing after a brief absence of it from our game. We had an overall better effort by the team. We played more composed and relaxed and that helped us."
In addition to the eight blocks, the Pioneers recorded 61 digs to the Owls' one block and 48 digs. Two Pioneers recorded double-doubles, as sophomore Holly Benson (Colorado Springs, Colo.) led the team in kills with 14, a match-high, and contributed 15 digs. Senior Lisa Hunter (St. Louis, Mo.) recorded 10 kills and 10 digs. Sophomore Clare Maxwell (Western Springs, Ill.) led all players with 43 assists in the game. Junior Alyssa Hampton (Parkville, Mo.) posted a match-high 16 digs.
