Lafayette, La. - Junior Kim Muller (Ballwin, Mo.) led all players with 19 kills as the University of Denver volleyball team extended its consecutive match-winning streak to nine Saturday evening with a 3-1 win over Sun Belt Conference opponent Louisiana-Lafayette (28-30, 30-19, 30-27, 30-23) in Lafayette, La. DU improved to a SBC West Division-best 12-4 in the conference and is 19-9 overall. ULL fell to 7-20 overall and 4-12 in the conference.
Muller hit .516 in the match and was part three blocks. Senior Lisa Hunter (St. Louis, Mo.) recorded 18 kills, eight digs and two solo blocks. Sophomore Holly Benson (Colorado Springs, Colo.) had 11 kills, three aces, and 19 digs. Junior Alyssa Hampton (Parkville, Mo.) had 23 digs. Sophomore Clare Maxwell (Western Springs, Ill.) had 53 assists and 12 digs.
Despite outhitting ULL .179 to .121, the Pioneers lost game one after the Ragin Cajuns took control late in the game on the way to the 30-28 win. DU controlled the second game, winning 30-19, and held ULL a -.071 hitting percentage. In game three, DU recorded 17 kills to ULL's 14, and won 30-27. DU capped off the evening by winning 30-23 in game four, committing just five attack errors.
"Muller played a great match offensively," head coach Beth Kuwata said. "We did a good job defensively. It's tough to win on the road and we just gutted it out and ground out a win."
DU continues its Louisiana road trip, Sunday, Nov. 5, at noon, at New Orleans. DU's last loss came against UNO Oct. 13, in a match that the Pioneers led 2-0 before giving up the next three games to lose, 3-2.
