The University of Denver men's tennis team improved to 7-4 on the season Friday with a 7-0 victory over Air Force. The Pioneers' first 7-0 sweep of the year gave DU its second consecutive victory.
"Air Force was playing without its best player and we took advantage of the situation," said head coach Geoff Young. "Our guys stayed focus and took care of business."
In doubles, the 59th-ranked team of Adam Holmstrom and with Niklas Persson at the No. 1 position, defeated Keith Cronican and Ryan White 8-1. At No. 2 doubles, Nejc Smole and Steve Flaks posted an 8-3 win over Air Force's Greg Ferry and Robby Alexander. Viktor Zetterholm and Aljosa Nipic made it a clean sweep, outing Kenneth Cotter and Trevor Johnson 8-3.
The Pioneers continued to roll in singles with No. 73 Holmstrom defeating Trevor Johnson 6-2, 6-3 in the No. 1 spot. At No. 2, Smole beat Alexander 6-2, 6-2 and Persson ousted Cronican 6-1, 7-5 at No. 3 singles. Viktor Zetterholm, Flaks and Nipic also posted victories for the Pioneers.
