Sophomore Kerry Porter (Western Springs, Ill.) hit .200 and was part of 10 of the DU blocks. Sophomore Clare Maxwell (Western Springs, Ill.) recorded 60 assists in the win.
"It was a tale of two matches," said head coach Beth Kuwata. "We came out with passion in game three and administered the changes we talked about at the break. It's hard to battle back but I am happy how we stuck in there and played."
Wyoming got out to a nine point lead in the first game and despite a Pioneer rally to get within three. The Cowgirls went on to the 30-24 win. The Cowgirls jumped out to an early lead in game two as well, but DU tied the game at 11-11. The game remained close but Wyoming won 31-29.
In game three, Wyoming jumped out to a 4-0 lead but a kill by Porter to tie the game at 10-10 charged the Pioneers, who went on to the 30-26 win. Junior Alyta Baris (Belvidere, Ill.) provided a spark off the bench in game four that allowed DU to send it to a fifth game with the 30-21 lead. Out of the gates the Pioneers dominated game five, winning 15-4.
DU travels to Arkansas to open Sun Belt Conference play against Arkansas-Little Rock, September 22, and Arkansas State, September 24.
