Box Score MONROE, La. Junior Holly Benson (Colorado Springs, Colo.) recorded a double-double as the University of Denver volleyball team swept ULM 3-0 (30-19, 30-24, 30-11) on Thursday night.
“We didn’t start out playing our style of game, but as the match progressed we started playing our style of defense, which helped us win,” head coach Beth Kuwata said.
Benson’s 10 kills and 12 digs marked her third-straight double-double. Senior Kim Muller (Ballwin, Mo.) added 10 kills and four block assists. Sophomore setter Clare Maxwell (Western Springs, Ill.) once again led all players with 37 assists.
Denver (11-9, 5-2 SBC) hit .364 in the match with 48 kills, 44 assists and 46 digs, while adding nine blocks. The Warhawks hit .075 in the match.
ULM (0-21, 0-8 SBC) actually led 8-7 in the first game of the match, but the Pioneers ripped off five-straight points as they cruised to the win. Denver got stronger in the second game, hitting .412, and dominated the final game with a .552 average.
The Pioneers continue their Southern swing, as they head to Louisiana-Lafayette to face the Ragin’ Cajuns tomorrow at 6 p.m.
