Box Score LAS VEGAS, Nev. Junior forwards Greg Fiddick (Sidney, B.C.) and Kyle Christensen (Layton, Utah) both found the back of the net, as Denver beat UNLV 2-1 on Sunday.
“It’s a good win in the conference, especially after the emotion on Friday night,” head coach Bobby Muuss said. “We have another tough test that we need to get ready for against Air Force next Saturday.”
In only his second game back from a knee injury, Fiddick hit a diving header to the left post to bury a pass off a free kick from junior midfielder Joe Mathot (Port Moody, B.C.) in the 17th minute.
With less than five minutes to play in the first half, UNLV’s goalkeeper came out to challenge Christensen, who fought past two defenders and scored on an open net.
The Pioneers (5-3-1, 1-0-1 MPSF) kept the Rebels (5-4-2, 1-1-0 MPSF) scoreless until the final second of the game, when Mason Trafford got the ball after a scramble and put it past senior goalkeeper Matt Bredehoft (Fort Collins, Colo.), who had a pair of saves in the game.
Denver controlled the game, outshooting UNLV 13-7.
The Pioneers return home for the first time in six games to face Air Force at Pioneer Field on Saturday at 1 p.m.
