Box Score

SACRAMENTO, Calif. Junior forward Kyle Christensen (Layton, Utah) scored two goals, as the Pioneers beat Sacramento State on Friday afternoon.

“It was a good win against a tough Sacramento State team,” assistant coach Ryan Pflugrad said. “Kyle Christensen showed what he can do as a goal scorer today by putting in two.”

Denver (7-4-2, 3-1-2 MPSF) got on the board 25:14 into the game when freshman midfielder Ryan Aweida (Broomfield, Colo.) slipped a pass to sophomore forward Collin Audley (Fort Collins, Colo.), who buried it past Hornet goalkeeper Ryan Kenny.

After a good buildup just over four minutes into the second half, Christensen nailed a shot from 10 yards out off a cross from freshman defender Michael Perry (Overland Park, Kan.).

Sacramento State (3-10-2, 2-3-1 MPSF) got one back, when David von Stockhausen scored in the 56th minute.

Christensen gave DU the lead for good, beating three defenders and scoring off an assist from senior defender Eric Vogel (Cherry Hills Village, Colo.)

Blake Nunes brought the game back to within a goal, finding the back of the net with less than three minutes remaining in the game.

DU continues its California swing, visiting Mountain Pacific Sports Federation rival San Jose State on Sunday at 1 p.m.
