Pioneers Extend Winning Streak to Three Games

DU held a 2-1 lead after a fast-paced opening period. Testwuide’s goal was redirected off a UAA defenseman four minutes into the game. The Seawolves tied the game at 17:12 when Brad McCabe pushed a rebound into an open net, but DU took the lead when May wristed a quick blast past Jon Althuis (12 saves) at 19:00 from the slot on a mini breakaway after a great feed from Patrick Mullen (Pittsburgh, Pa.).
The Pioneers led 4-3 after two periods. Martin gave DU a 3-1 lead at 1:20 of the second with a power-play rebound goal off a shot by Bozak. UAA made it 3-2 when Josh Lunden snuck a goal past Mannino at 5:25. Trotter made it 4-2 when he buried the eventual game-winning goal on a pretty feed from Bozak at 7:29. UAA responded with a power-play goal by Craig Parkinson at 9:29.
Mannino shook off a tough start and starred in the third period with nine saves. DU was outshot 36-16 in the game. The Pioneers went 1-for-4 on the power play, while UAA was 1-for-6.
The teams play the series finale tomorrow night at 9:07 p.m. MT.
Notes: Denver won for the first time when allowing three or more goals...DU is 6-2 on the road...The Pioneers improved to 11-0 when leading after two periods...Brock Trotter leads Denver in scoring with 8-1018...The two-point effort was Trotter’s fifth multi-point game of the season and first in seven games...J.P.
