DENVER - Senior Tyesha Lowery (Arlington, Texas) scored on four straight attempts spanning halftime and finished with 18 points, as the University of Denver women's basketball team dropped UALR, 61-47, in Sun Belt Conference action on Thursday evening in Magness Arena.

"That's a good basketball team we just beat," said head coach Pam Tanner. "The mark of a good basketball team in February is how you weather storms. I thought we stayed composed in the first half when things weren't clicking. Once again we truly allowed our defense to upstart our offense."

Lowery was 9-of-11 from the field and contributed five assists, a career-high three blocks and two steals. Junior Sara Benham (Muleshoe, Texas) added 13 points, five rebounds and two assists.

"I thought Ty played the best game as a Pioneer," said Tanner. "Benham was solid offensively. I thought Nnenna Akotaobi put on a clinic against Anshel Cooper in the second half."

Denver (14-9, 8-5 SBC) came out motivated in the second half, going on an 8-2 run. DU pushed its lead to as many as 19, holding UALR to 11.1 percent shooting from three-point range in the half. Junior Alisha Godette (Colorado Springs, Colo.) recorded six of her nine points in the second half.

The Trojans (16-9, 8-6 SBC) went on a 10-0 run to start the game until junior Jenna Cole (Lincoln, Neb.) hit a three-pointer at 14:50. Denver took the lead at 17-16 on a runner by Lowery late in the first half. The two teams exchanged the lead three times and combined for three ties in the last 4:53 of the first half, as DU went into the locker room leading 27-24.

DU hits the road to face the University of New Orleans (8-17, 2-12) on Saturday, Feb. 10 to face Sun Belt Conference action. The game can be heard live on www.denverpioneers.com with Mitch Hyder calling the action.
