Pioneers Top Golden Knights

ORLANDO, Fla. - The University of Denver men's tennis team claimed three singles matches and the doubles point on the way to edging the University of Central Florida, 4-3, Tuesday afternoon at the UCF Tennis Complex.

Denver (8-3) took victories at the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 4 singles positions and won at No. 2 and No. 3 in doubles play.

No. 19-ranked Adam Holstrom (Eskilstuna, Sweden) improved to 8-4 on the season by cruising past UCF's Sinan Sudas 6-0, 6-4. Nejc Smole (Ljubljana, Slovenia) topped Tarek Ben Soltane, 6-4, 6-1. Timo Kienle (Ludwigsburg, Germany) dropped Norman Alcantra in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.

Holstrom and Nik Persson (Stockholm, Sweden) dropped just their second doubles match of the season, 8-6, but DU rallied winning the next two for the doubles point as Rav Dhatt (Victoria, British Columbia) and Smole topped Johan Beigart and Sudas, 8-6, and Kienle and Kalle Rosen (Helsingborg, Sweden) took an 8-5 decision from Jimmy Rosen and Danny Colón.

The Pioneers continue their Florida trip Thursday, March 22 at the University of South Florida at Noon.
