No. 59 Pioneers Storm Past Montana, 5-2

DENVER - The No. 59 Denver Pioneers lost the doubles point, but stormed back to win five of six singles matches en route to a 5-2 win over Montana in men's tennis action this afternoon in Denver.

Montana won the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3. However, DU's No. 40 tandem of Adam Holmstrom (Eskilstuna, Sweden) and Niklas Persson (Stockholm, Sweden) improved to 8-1 with an 8-5 over Colin Dektar and Raydner Ramos and No. 1.

DU turned up its intensity in singles and won five of six matches. Persson won at No. 4 to improve to 7-1 and Holmstrom gave DU the match lead with a win at No. 1. Timo Kienle (Ludwigsburg, Germany) gave DU a 3-1 lead with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 3 and Nejc Smole (Ljubljana, Slovenia) clinched the match with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Stuart Wing. Kalle Rosen (Helsingborg, Sweden) added a win at No. 5.

"Montana is a solid team and was ready for doubles," DU head coach Danny Westerman said. "Our guys really stepped up after we lost the doubles point. I was proud of the way we increased our energy level once singles started."

DU returns to action on March 9 against Memphis in Tucson, Ariz.
