LAFAYETTE, La. - The No. 47 University of Denver men's tennis team was upset 4-2 by Troy at the Sun Belt Shootout on Saturday at Cajun Courts in Lafayette, La. The Trojans improved to 5-7, while the Pioneers fell to 11-5. Singles matches were played first due to threatening weather and doubles were cancelled after the Trojans clinched the win singles.
Adam Holmstrom (Eskilstuna, Sweden) and Niklas Persson (Stockholm, Sweden) recorded DU's lone singles wins in the inaugural Sun Belt event. Holmstrom defeated Irving Morales 6-2, 6-4, while Persson beat Dai Edwards-Evans 6-1, 6-0.
"I tip my hat to Troy," DU head coach Danny Westerman said. "They were ready to play from the get go and definitely deserved the win more than we did today. We need to learn from today's match very quickly if we still want to acheive the goals we established at the begining of the year."
The Pioneers play Louisiana-Lafayette on Sunday morning at Cajun Courts. .
