Box Score GREEN BAY, Wis. The University of Denver men’s soccer team rebounded from a loss yesterday to dominate Albany in a 2-0 win at the Green Bay Nike Classic on Sunday afternoon.
The Pioneers (3-2-0) controlled the game from the beginning but did not score until almost 74 minutes into the contest, when freshman midfielder Ryan Garren (Broomfield, Colo.) buried his first career goal off an assist from sophomore forward Miles Marmo (Excelsior, Minn.).
Senior midfielder Jacob Chase (Golden, Colo.) put the game away with just 3:31 remaining in the game. Chase crossed the ball from the baseline on the right side, and the ball slipped through Albany goalkeeper Ceus Steward's hands and ended up in the goal.
Denver had 22 shots to five by Albany (1-5-1), while getting 10 corner kicks to the Great Danes’ one. s
“The stats show it all,” head coach Bobby Muuss said. “We used every field player we had, and it was a good team effort. It was a great way to bounce back from yesterday’s game.”
Senior defenseman Josh Fallin (Midland, Texas), sophomore defenseman Kris Banghart (Fort Collins, Colo.) and junior midfielder Joe Mathot (Port Moody, B.C.) were all named to the Green Bay Nike Soccer Classic All-Tournament Team.
DU next heads to Seattle, Wash., for the University of Washington Tournament. The Pioneers will meet No. 25 Washington on Friday, Sept. 21 at 8 p.m. and Portland on Sunday, Sept. 23 at noon.
