DU Women's Soccer Triumphs over Air Force

Box Score

DENVER The University of Denver women’s soccer team (1-1-0) closed out action in the Denver Classic with a win over Air Force Academy after dropping their tournament opener against CU-Boulder.

“It’s still early in the season and we are working out our kinks,” head coach Jeff Hooker said. “This weekend was good gauge of what we need to work on.”

Senior midfielder Jenna Billingsley (Littleton, Colo.) opened the scoring in the 21st minute of the game, netting her first goal of the season off a free kick from the left side about 25 yards out.

Less than four minutes later, sophomore Brooke Lamphere (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) extended the Pioneer lead to two with an unassisted goal. The forward took advantage of a loose ball in front of the Falcon net and pounded home Denver’s second goal of the game.

The Pioneers surrendered a goal to the Falcons with two minutes remaining in the first half, as Roni Yadlin scored the lone goal for Air Force off an unexpected rebound, catching DU keeper Mackenzie Snyder (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.) off guard.

The sophomore keeper was flawless in net for the Pioneers in the second half, recording four saves in the win.

Sophomore Lizzie Carlson (Honolulu, Hawaii) sealed the win for Denver in the 70th minute with the third Pioneer goal of the game when a deflected ball bounced perfectly to the wide open midfielder on the left side.

Goalkeepers Elizabeth Smith and Erin Wallace each played one half in net for the Falcons, combining for four saves. Air Force drops to 0-2-0 on the season.

Denver’s Carlson and junior Katie Oates (Littleton, Colo.) were named to the Denver Classic All-Tournament Team.

The Pioneers will look to build a win streak when they take on Northern Colorado at home on Sept. 8 at 1 p.m.
