Denver, CO The No. 66 Pioneers swept all nine matches for the 7-0 win over Air Force Friday at the Meadow Creek Tennis Club. Sophomore Ravjot Dhatt (Victoria, British Columbia) came from behind to beat Air Force’s Johnny Buckingham and complete the sweep.
DU swept won all three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. Adam Holmstrom (Eskilstuna, Sweden) and Andrew Landwerlen (Las Cruces, N.M.) defeated Brett Rodgers and Taylor Soster 8-3 at No. 1. Kalle Rosen (Helsingborg, Sweden) and Niklas Persson (Stockholm, Sweden) defeated Austin Francis and James Tomlin 8-3 at No. 2. David Simson (Vienna, Austria) and Dhatt beat Johnny Buckingham and Michael Gies 8-4 in No. 3.
The Pioneers picked up singles wins at all six positions. No. 17 Holmstrom defeated Rodgers 6-1, 6-4 in No. 1 and Persson beat Francis 6-3, 6-3 in No. 2. Simson beat Tomlin 6-0, 6-0 in No. 3 and Landwerlen defeated Soster 6-3, 6-0 in No. 4. Rosen defeated Gerg Ferry 7-5, 6-1 and Dhatt came from behind to edge Buckingham 6-7, 6-4, 10-5.
"The guys did a good job of taking care of their own courts tonight,” head coach Danny Westerman said. “I am very happy the way Ravy came back in his match and found a way to win. Hopefully we can take another step forward against Northern Colorado tomorrow night."
With the win, Denver improves to 1-0 on the season. Air Force falls to 0-1.
DU will take on Northern Colorado tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. at the Meadow Creek Tennis Club.
