Denver Falls 3-1 to UALR in Final Weekend Match

DENVER The University of Denver volleyball team (21-5, 10-3 SBC) fell 3-1 (23-25, 28-26, 22-25, 18-25) to the UALR Trojans (22-6, 11-4 SBC) on Sunday afternoon in Little Rock, Arkansas to close out the weekend with a 1-1 road-trip record.

 

Junior Emmy Davidsmeyer (Colorado Springs, Colo.) led the Pioneers for the second time this weekend as she finished with 18 kills on 37 total attacks for a .432 hitting percentage. The right-side hitter also finished with nine digs, three blocks and two service aces. Also turning in a top-performance was senior Holly Benson (Colorado Springs, Colo.), who finished with her 15th double-double of the season on 14 kills and 15 digs. Rounding out the double-figure scoring for Denver was junior Alexis Ninos (Cypress, Texas) and senior Jacqueline Paul (Albuquerque, N.M.), as they finished with 11 and 10 kills, respectively.

 

Setter Clare Maxwell (Jr., Western Springs, Ill.) finished with her fifth 50+ assist performance of the season as she tallied 55 assists. Maxwell has now tallied 1,031 total assists for the season, and is averaging 10.85 per set.

 

Defensively, the Pioneers were led at the net by Paul’s four total blocks and libero Kacie Wikierak’s (Crystall Lake, Ill.) 18 digs.

 

Amila Barakovic led the way for the Trojans as she finished with 27 kills on 53 total attacks for a .415 hitting percentage. Also contributing was Anita Bucur with 12 kills on 28 attacks for a .357 percentage and three service aces.  Trojan setter, Guiliana DeFrancesco finished with 51 of her team’s 59 assists.

 

Defensively, UALR had four Trojans finish with double-digit digs as Kehly MacDuff led the way with 16. Lead thing way at the net was Katie McCutcheon with four total blocks.

 

The Pioneers remain on the road and will head to New Orleans, Louisiana to face the University of New Orleans on Thursday, Nov. 6 for a 6 p.m. (MT) match.
