Pioneers Fall 3-0 to New Orleans on the Road

DENVER The University of Denver volleyball team (21-6, 10-4 SBC) fell 3-0 to the New Orleans Privateers (16-9, 9-5 SBC) at the Human Performance Center on Thursday evening. The loss is the first of a three-match SBC road trip throughout the state of Louisiana that the Pioneers are on.

 

SBC Offensive Player of the Week recipient Emmy Davidsmeyer (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) finished the match with a team-high nine kills on 15 attacks for a .467 hitting percentage. The right-side hitter also finished with three digs, one block assist and 9.5 total points. Setter Clare Maxwell tallied 13 assists, while sophomore Kresson Vreeman (Raymond, Minn.) added four in her debut with the Pioneers.

 

Defensively, the Pioneers finished with 19 digs and out-blocked the Privateers 7-2.

 

For the Privateers, Dobrilla Kovacevic led the way with 16 kills on 23 attacks for a .565 hitting percentage, while teammate Lindsey Loyd added 15 kills on 22 attacks for a .682 hitting percentage. Setter Cassidy Asebroek tallied 38 assists, while libero Nicky Valenti notched 12 digs.

 

Denver remains on the road for the weekend and will face Louisiana-Lafayette on Friday, Nov. 7 for a 6 p.m. (MT) match in Lafayette, La. The Pioneers will then close out weekend action with a 12 p.m. (MT) match against Louisiana-Monroe on Sunday, Nov. 9.
