LINCOLN, Neb. - The No. 66 Denver men's tennis team celebrated the return of junior Benny Althaus (Saarbrucken, Germany) with a 5-2 win over No. 72 Iowa on Saturday in Lincoln, Neb.
Althaus made his debut in the Pioneer lineup after missing the first four matches and responded with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Tommy McGeorge at No. 5 singles. No. 17 Adam Holmstrom (Eskilstuna, Sweden), Niklas Persson (Stockholm, Sweden) and Kalle Rosen (Helsingborg, Sweden) added victories as DU took four of six singles matches.
The Pioneers captured the doubles point as No. 6 Holmstrom and Persson won 8-5 at No. 1 doubles and Rosen and David Simson (Vienna, Austria) won 9-7 at No. 3.
"It's great having Benny back in the lineup," DU head coach Danny Westerman said. "We're playing well and having him back in the lineup is going to make everyone better."
DU (4-1) plays No. 61 Nebraska on Sunday, Feb. 10.
