No. 67 Pioneers Defeat No. 40 Minnesota 5-2

MINNEAPOLIS - The No. 67 University of Denver men's tennis team improved to 3-0 with a 5-2 win over No. 40 Minnesota late Friday at Baseline Tennis Center. DU claimed the doubles point and singles victories at No. 1, No. 2, No. 4 and No. 6 in the victory.
No. 17 Adam Holmstrom (Eskilstuna, Sweden) won a three-set match at No. 1 over No. 46 Rauol Schwark. Niklas Persson (Stockholm, Sweden) won 7-6, 6-4 at No. 2 and David Simson (Vienna, Austria) won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4. Kalle Rosen (Helsingborg, Sweden) claimed the final singles win at No. 6.
DU dominated doubles play by winning all three matches. David Landwerlen (Las Cruces, N.M.) and Simson won 8-3 at No. 1, Holmstrom and Ravjot Dhatt (Victoria, British Columbia) won 8-7(5) at No. 2 and Persson and Rosen won 8-5 at No. 3.
"The boys did an unbelievable job tonight," head coach Danny Westerman said. "This is the type of effort we need every match to reach our goals. Hopefully, this win will give us some momentum against a very good Middle Tennessee team on Saturday. I am especially proud of Kalle, who clinched doubles with Nik and his dual during singles." The Pioneers play No. 59 Middle Tennessee at 12 p.m. Saturday in Minneapolis.
