DU Edges BYU, 4-3

DENVER - No. 59 Denver edged BYU 4-3 in a competitive regional matchup late Saturday night at Meadow Creek Tennis Club last night. DU improves to 9-1, while BYU falls to 6-3.

DU clinced the win by winning the doubles point and winning three consecutive singles matches. BYU claimed the final three singles matches to make the final 4-3.

No. 7 Adam Holmstrom (Eskilstuna, Sweden) and Niklas Persson (Stockholm, Sweden) won 8-4 at No. 1 doubles and Andrew Landwerlen (Las Cruces, N.M.) and Benny Althaus (Saarbrucken, Germany) clinched the win at No. 3 with an 8-5 win.

No. 11 Holmstrom made it 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles and Kalle Rosen posted a solid 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 6. David Simson continued his strong play by clinching DU's sixth consecutive win with a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 3.

"We had a great weekend of tennis," DU second-year head coach Danny Westerman said. "It's great to go 2-0 at home with a lot of fans at our last home match for our three seniors. BYU is a great team and we battled to the finish to win this one."

The PIoneers return to action March 1 against Washington in Eugene, Ore.
