Pioneers Fall to No. 7 Big Red

DALLAS, Texas The University of Denver men’s lacrosse team fell to No. 7 Cornell 20-7 on Tuesday evening at Highlander Stadium.

 

The Pioneers came out firing to begin the game, as freshman Jamie Lincoln (St. Cathariens, Ontario) scored at 14:17 in the first and senior Jon Paulson (Flemington, N.J.) followed with an unassisted goal at 13:36.

 

The Big Red knotted the game at 2-2 before freshman Emerson Eichler (New Vernon, N.J.) gave Denver back the lead. Cornell recorded five unanswered goals to pull out to a 7-3 lead to end the first quarter.

 

Junior Joey Murray (Denver, Colo.) stopped Cornell’s run with an assist from sophomore Charley Dickenson (Dallas, Texas) to begin the second quarter.

 

Sophomore John Dickenson (Dallas, Texas) ended a 7-0 run by the Big Red, but the Pioneers trailed 15-5 at the end of the first half.

 

Sophomore Ilija Gajic (Burnaby, B.C.) added a goal, while Lincoln recorded his second of the game in the fourth quarter.

 

Sophomore Peyton Tyrie (Greenwood Village, Colo.) entered the game in the second quarter and recorded four saves, while allowing 10 goals.

 

The Pioneers travel to Stony Brook on March 22 to play the Sea Wolves at 2 p.m. MT. DU returns home on Monday, March 24 to face Presbyterian at 7:30 p.m.
