DENVER - Former DU Pioneer Glenn Anderson was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame today. Anderson starred for the Pioneers in his lone season in the Crimson and Gold in 1979, collecting 55 points on 26 goals and 29 assists in 41 games.
Anderson was drafted by the Edmonton Oilers 69th overall in the 1979 entry draft. He played 11 seasons for the Oilers (1980-91), collecting five Stanley Cup championships. He scored overtime winners and game-clinching goals in each of the Oilers' five trips to the finals between 1984 and 1990.
In 1992, Anderson was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs, where he became one of the Leafs' top scorers and once again a playoff leader, as Toronto made it to within one game of the Cup finals in 1993.
He won his sixth Stanley Cup with the New York Rangers in 1994.
Headlining the 2008 HOF class was Igor Larionov, who won two Olympic gold medals as part of the 1984 and 1988 Soviet Union teams, and three Stanley Cup championships.
Former linesman Ray Scapinello and the late Ed Chynoweth also made the hall.
