Box Score CHICAGO, Ill. The University of Denver volleyball team fell to the University of Texas-San Antonio 3-2 in the Pioneers’ second match of the DePaul Invitational at McGrath Arena. The loss halts the Pioneers’ win streak at five matches.
“Today’s match was tough because we were out-played,” said head coach Beth Kuwata. “They played great defense which made the difference in the match.”
Senior Kerry Porter (Western Springs, Ill.) finished with a personal-best 17 kills with a .387 attack percentage. Senior Holly Benson (Colorado Springs, Colo.) tallied 14 kills along with 23 digs and three blocks. Rounding out the double-figure kills were Jacqueline Paul (Sr., Albuquerque, N.M.) with 12 and Emmy Davidsmeyer (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) with 11.
Setter Clare Maxwell (Jr., Western Springs, Ill.) finished with a season-high 56 assists, while libero Kacie Wikierak (So., Crystal Lake, Ill.) notched 27 digs and two service aces.
Denver will close out the DePaul Invitational with a 6:30 p.m. (MT) match against the hosts, DePaul tonight at McGrath Arena. The Pioneers are 1-0 against DePaul.
