USAFA, Colo. - No. 47 Denver defeated Air Force 7-0 in men's tennis action this afternoon at the Academy. DU improves to 2-0 with its second consecutive 7-0 win.
"Hopefully, this past weekend gives us momentum for the the upcoming National Indoor Kickoff at Pepperdine," DU head coach Danny Westerman said. "We're really looking forward to next week's challenge."
DU sweep the doubles point with three consecutive 8-6 wins. Martin Zimmermann (Ludwigshafen, Germany) and Benny Althaus (Saarbrucken, Germany) won at No. 1, David Simson (Vienna, Austria) and Johan Gunnarsson (Vaxjo, Sweden) were victorius at No. 2 and Yannick Weihs (Guntramsdorf, Austria) and Ravjot Dhatt (Victoria, British Columbia) won at No. 3.
DU's six singles players needed two sets each to complete the sweep of the Falcons. Zimmermann defeated Austin Francis 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1, Simson defeated Cody Hall 7-6, 7-6 at No. 2, Althaus bested Brett Rodgers 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3, Weihs beat Taylor Soster 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4, Gunnarsson beat Michael Gies 6-3 6-2 at No. 5 and Dhatt won 7-6, 6-2 at No. 6 singles.
The Pioneers return to action at the National Indoor Kickoff Tournament in Pepperdine on Jan. 31.
