Hockey Rallies for 4-4 Tie

Box Score

DENVER - Junior Kyle Ostrow (Calgary, Alberta) scored at 14:57 in the third period to force overtime as No. 2/3 Denver rallied to a 4-4 tie against Minnesota State tonight at Magness Arena. DU remains unbeaten in WCHA play at 3-0-1, 5-2-1 overall. MSU is 3-4-1 and 1-4-1.

"Overall it was a competitive game and series," head coach George Gwozdecky said. "We'll take the point because Minnesota State outplayed us tonight."

MSU scored two goals in the first 10 minutes of the game, but DU evened the score with tallies from freshman Drew Shore (Denver, Colo.) at 13:46 and senior Tyler Ruegsegger (Lakewood, Colo.) at 15:32.

Junior Anthony Maiani (Shelby Township, Mich.) contributed a goal in the second period, while Patrick Wiercioch (Maple Ridge, British Columbia) had two assists.

Both teams killed off power play opportunities in overtime. DU was on the power play for the last 1:23 of overtime, but did not score.

Freshman Adam Murray (Anchorage, Alaska) had 30 saves in his first WCHA start. National Player of the Week Marc Cheverie (Cole Harbor, Nova Scotia) missed the game after suffering a severe leg injury last night. Cheverie is expected back in a few weeks.

MSU's special teams were potent, going 3-6 on the power play and killing off a 5-3 DU advantage for the last 1:52 of the first period. DU outshot MSU 44-34, but went just 1-6 on the power play.

Minnesota State's Kevin Murdock had 40 saves and Ben Youds had three assists.

DU returns to action Nov. 6-7 against Alaska Anchorage.

Notes: Wiercioch extended his point streak to four games...All four of Kyle Ostrow's goals have come on Saturday nights...The game was delayed approximately five minutes before the start of the third period due to a fire alarm...Adam Murray and William Wrenn return home to Anchorage, Alaska next weekend.
