Box Score DENVER - For the second year in a row, the University of Denver women's basketball team (0-1) dropped its season opener to the Wyoming Cowgirls (1-0) 65-62 Friday night at Magness Arena.
"We came out in the first half ready to compete and held a strong Wyoming offense, but too many mistakes in the second cost us," said head coach Erik Johnson. "I have to hand it to Wyoming-they made huge shot after huge shot."
The Pioneers were led by senior Ashly Robinson (Bloomington, Minn.) and sophomore Kaetlyn Murdoch (Temple, Texas) who each had double-doubles in the contest. Robinson scored 12 points with 12 rebounds and Murdoch had 10 points with 13 rebounds. Junior Britteni Rice (Pampa, Texas) scored a game-high 16 points.
DU was 23-56 from the field and 7-17 from beyond the arc.
Wyoming had three players in double digits as Emma Langford scored 15, while Hillary Carlson and Aubrey Vandiver each had 14 points. The Cowgirls also registered seven steals.
The Pioneers return to action on Wednesday as they host Colorado State at 7 p.m.
