Men's Tennis Loses 5-2

No. 48 Denver dropped a 5-2 decision to No. 44 New Mexico in men's tennis action late Friday at Meadow Creek Tennis Center. Denver falls to 4-3 overall, while New Mexico improves to 6-1.

New Mexico won the doubles points and four singles matches to defeat Denver. Martin Zimmermann (Ludwigshafen, Germany) and David Simson (Vienna, Austria) were victorious at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively, for the Pioneers.

No. 82 Simson defeated No. 86 Graeme Kassautzki in three sets in the marque singles match of the night. Zimmerman added a three-set win over Jonny Parkes at No. 2 singles.

DU lost three singles matches in three sets.

"We fought very hard and our team effort was great," DU head coach Danny Westerman said. "However, we need to fight a little smarter if we want to win the close matches."

DU hosts Texas Tech today.
